We are an auberge ryokan to focus, more than anything else, on the cuisine. And our food has been appraised as the best in Okuhida area. Commitment to the Hidagyu beef sirloin of the highest rank and the locally produced ingredients, we devote ourselves to serve you even better foods every day with the spirit of “Not letting our guests leave without feeling stuffed.” Make sure you have light lunch, or no lunch at all, and arrive with undisturbed appetite.

Ingredients

The owner, Sakamaki, is certified as the “Grand Maser Cook” and allows absolutely no compromise on ingredients. “When you pursue the truly tasty ingredients, you will eventually come to the state where you harvest what your own eyes consider as best.” In the pursuit of the ultimate gourmet he could not do as the head chef of a large ryokan, he goes into the mountains to pick and catch the fresh ingredients like wild vegetables, mushrooms, sweetfish, and mountain trout to serve you at their very best.

In addition to Okuhida’s specialty like hoba miso yaki (grilled food with miso on a hoba leaf) and rainbow trout, we serve the delicacy whose simplicity emphasizes the skill of the cook such as home-made tofu and Japanese-style moist omelet. The owner certified as the “Grand Maser Cook” prepares with his heart and soul.

We arrived early at the hotel to take a rest for a little while.

17:00「Take the 100% gensen kakenagashi hot spa」

Firstly, we pampered ourselves with the hot spa in the main building. The indoor and the outdoor bathtubs were filled with spa water from the different sources. It was entirely relaxing time.

18:00「Dinner」

We enjoyed the lavish cuisine prepared by the owner who is certified as the “Grand Master Cook of Gifu Prefecture”. The main dishes for today were the freshwater fish the owner has caught himself just this morning and the local specialty of Hidagyu beef steak. We made sure to ask for the local sake.

21:00「Take another hot spa in the private bathroom」

The private bathroom is available only in the limited season/day of the week, and luckily, it was available for us tonight. We had the bathroom with the outdoor bathtub, filled with gensen kakenagashi hot spa, all to ourselves. My friend and I had a great conversation.

22:00「Go to sleep」

The night in Hirayu was very quiet. I went to sleep earlier than usual.

6:00「Wake up」

I took a walk in Hirayu and felt great, although I was a little bit sleepy. The snow-capped Northern Alps was so beautiful and touching.

7:00「Take the hot spa」

The best part of staying at a hot spa ryokan was that I could take the hot spa as often as I wanted. Quick bath helped me getting rid of my sleepiness.

8:00「Breakfast」

Eitaro served great breakfast, too! Homemade dried fish and the Hida’s specialty of hoba miso yaki were great, but I was most thrilled with the all-you-can-eat TKG (tamago kake gohan – rice mixed with a raw egg). Although I usually have just a slice of bread for breakfast, I took a second serving of rice today.

I spent a slow and relaxing time at Eitaro, and wanted to come back in a different season. I decided to use the ticket for the “Hirayu no Mori” hot spa on our way home.
